Cannelton Heritage Fest, anniversary activities announced

The Cannelton Foundation, along with the city, has started plans for the annual Cannelton Heritage Fest and 175th anniversary of the city.
Below are some of the activities planned for the October event.

Cannelton Miss Heritage Fest pageant
CANNELTON – During the 175th anniversary of the city of Cannelton and its annual Heritage Fest, the Cannelton Foundation will sponsor the inaugural Miss Heritage Fest Pageant at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Covered Wagon in Cannelton.
Winners will be crowned in each category and a trophy will be presented for each runner-up. Categories are Miss, 7- to 9-year olds; Miss Pre-Teen, 10- to 12-year-olds; Miss Teen, 13- to 15-year-olds and Miss Heritage Fest, 16- to 19-year-olds.
Formal attire is required and entry fee is $20. Special judges will be announced at a later date.
Following the pageant, an old-time fashion show will be held at approximately 2 p.m. There is no entry fee for the show and everyone – men, women and children – are welcome. Anyone wearing period dress from the 1800s through the 1950s is welcome and each participant will receive a ribbon.

Brothers of the Brush Contest
CANNELTON – A Brothers of the Brush contest will be held as a part of the festivities for Cannelton’s 175th anniversary.
The event will be held immediately after the Old Time Fashion Show at the Covered Wagon. Categories will include longest, bushiest and best mustache.
The event will be sponsored by the Cannelton Foundation.

Historical haunted walking tour
CANNELTON – The Tell City Ghost Hunters will sponsor historical haunted walking tours of Cannelton during the city’s annual Heritage Fest.
Cost will be $6 per person for anyone 13 years old and older. Couples can attend the walk for $10. Tours will begin at the Perry County Museum and end at the Old Cannelton Gym. The tours will also consist of a 30-minute investigation.

Foundation to host parade Oct. 7
CANNELTON – To kick off Cannelton’s celebration of its 175th anniversary and annual Heritage Fest, the city will host a parade at 2 p.m. Oct. 7.
Certificates will be given to all participants and awards will be presented to the best floats in the categories of band, civic, commercial and community.
