WASHINGTON - Cannelton had only four hits in three games as it was shut out in baseball twice Saturday and once Monday.

The Bulldogs lost 10-0 and 2-0 to Washington Catholic in a doubleheader Saturday.

They lost another road game at Wood Memorial 10-0 Monday.

"We're putting the ball in play - it's just right at someone," said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett.

The Bulldogs also had some defensive problems, committing six errors in the first game Saturday, two in the second game, and six Monday.

Tyler Aud pitched a complete game for Cannelton in the first game Saturday, giving up only four earned runs. He struck out three and walked one.

Ethan Herzog hit a double and Justin Dooley added a single for Cannelton in that game. But the Bulldogs struck out eight times and drew no walks.

Matt Bezy pitched a five-inning no-hitter for the Cardinals in the second game. He also struck out eight and walked none.

"We just got impatient," said Garrett of the Bulldogs' lack of walks. "We get one strike and we start hacking at everything."

Cody Lawalin pitched a four-hitter for Cannelton in that game. He walked one and struck out none.

Wood Memorial outhit Cannelton 9-2 Monday and also took advantage of six Cannelton errors.

The game was a scoreless tie through four innings. Then in the fifth "the wheels just fell off again," said Garrett.

Five of Wood Memorial's first six batters reached base that inning on three errors and two doubles. The Trojans went on to score nine runs that inning.

Herzog hit a double and T.J. James a single for Cannelton's hits in the game.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs in the third inning on James' single and two walks.

But a strikeout and a 1-4-3 double play ended the inning.

Cannelton struck out only four times that game, though.

Cannelton, 1-18, will host Butler County for a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
