Harris says mayor drove him to vacate position
CANNELTON - Cannelton's fire chief and assistant fire chief resigned their positions early this month, explaining Tuesday they did so as a result of meddling in the volunteer department's affairs by Mayor Smokey Graves.
Graves announced Chief Jerry Harris' resignation, effective Sept. 1, at a Sept. 8 meeting of the city's board of public works and safety. The job would fall to the assistant chief, he said, "but I heard he'll follow suit with the chief."
