Confidential results will help city get grants

CANNELTON – Surveys were to go out to Cannelton residents soon, Mayor Mary Snyder said during a common-council meeting Jan. 13. She urged council members to encourage residents to complete and return them.

She said during a Dec. 9 meeting she and others had discussed a recent grant denial and how applications for such funding are scored. A current income survey can bolster such applications.

“The current documentation they’re using is about 10 years old,” Snyder explained, adding the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission was to get addresses from the city’s utilities office and send out the surveys.

“We’ll have to buy the envelopes and stamps, and they’ll take care of all the mailings,” she added. “The city will not see any of it.”

The council voted at the Dec. 9 meeting to approve paying the planning commission $1,200 to administer the survey and a $250 certification fee.
