CANNELTON—Two errors, a walk, a hit batsman and a balk contributed to Collinsville Christian’s six-run third inning in its 12-4 baseball win over Cannelton Friday.
The Warriors, an Illinois team on spring break, also had four hits that inning, including a double.
Their other hits that inning were an infield one down the third-base line by their speedy leadoff hitter and two singles to short center field.
“They had a couple of bloop hits that inning,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “Our outfielders were playing too deep.”
Cannelton led 1-0 before that inning, scoring a run in the second after Larry Holman led off with single to right-center.
Damon Powers walked and Drake Duke and Jayden Morris were each hit by a pitch to force in the run.
The Bulldogs added two runs in the bottom of the third. Tristan Simmons singled to center, stole second, and scored on Holman’s double to right.
Holman scored as Bryce Garrett reached base on an infield error.
Cannelton had only one hit the rest of the way, Hunter Herzog’s infield hit leading off the bottom of the seventh.
But the Bulldogs struck out only twice. “We made contact, but it was right at them,” said Mike Garrett.
The Warriors had 10 hits, with Williams, a strong left-handed batter going 3 for 4.
Duke pitched 61⁄3 innings for Cannelton in his first game of the season. He struck out seven and walked four.
“Drake threw well,” said Garrett.
Orleans outhit Cannelton 11-3 Wednesday to win 12-1.
Herzog, Simmons and Powers each had one single for the Bulldogs.
Jayden Morris pitched the first four innings to take the loss. He gave up 10 hits and three walks and struck out one.
Cannelton, 2-4, will visit Perry Central today at 4:30 p.m.
