CANNELTON—Jordan Mattingly had three hits and drove in two runs as Cannelton beat Orleans 5-1 in baseball Wednesday.

Mattingly went 3 for 3, including a double to the fence. He also stole three bases.

Tyler Aud added two hits to the Bulldogs’ eight-hit attack.

Ethan Herzog and Aud combined to pitch a six-hitter for Cannelton.

Herzog walked none and struck out three in five innings.

“Ethan really pitched a good game,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “He mixed his curveball in with his fastball pretty well and really had everyone guessing.

“He even threw his curveball once on a 3-2 count. He was really placing the ball well.”

Aud walked one and struck out three in two innings.

Cannelton lost a road game to South Central 15-2 Thursday.

John Lopp pitched a three-hitter for the Rebels, who are ranked ninth in the state in Class A. He struck out nine and walked none.

“He threw strikes and we just couldn’t catch up to his fastball for some reason,” said Garrett.

Herzog hit a two-run over the right-field fence in the first inning to account for all of Cannelton’s scoring.

Mattingly pitched a complete game for Cannelton to take the loss. He walked two and struck out one.

He gave up 13 hits but was also hurt by four Cannelton errors.

Cannelton, 1-6, will visit Perry Central for a doubleheader today at 4:30 p.m.
