CANNELTON - Cannelton hit only 6 of 32 shots from the field in a 54-16 girls basketball loss to Orleans Thursday.
The Bulldogs trailed only 21-8 at halftime but had trouble getting the ball inside against Orleans' aggressive defense in the second half and usually settled for outside shots.
Orleans scored the first 18 points of the third quarter before Cannelton guard Nakaa Myers hit a three-point shot from the wing with 1:15 left in the period.
The Bulldogs did not score again until Chelsea Johns hit a three-pointer from the corner with 3:32 left in the game.
Their only other field goal of the second half was an 18-footer by Devin Lockman with 0:06 left.
"The first half I was very pleased with our play except for some lazy passes again," said Cannelton Coach Jeff Miller.
"Defensively they made some adjustments in the second half," added the coach. "They were playing more man-to-man were able to help on the weak side a lot."
Myers led the Bulldogs with five points and tied Jaci Garrett for the team lead in rebounds with five.
Junior forward Emily Grace led Orleans, 13-4, with 20 points.
Cannelton, 3-13, will host Breckinridge County Thursday at 6 p.m.
