LINCOLN CITY—Lacey Briggs scored 18 points, including four three-point baskets, as Tell City clubbed South Spencer 39-19 in the PSC Girls Holiday Tip-Off tourney Saturday evening.
Tell City’s offense was sluggish in Saturday morning’s session as the Marksmen lost to Heritage Hills 34-24. The Marksmen did not score in the first quarter of that game.
Briggs scored two field goals in the first quarter Saturday evening as Tell City jumped to a 6-4 lead over the Rebels.
South Spencer guard Sarah Lindsey scored three consecutive points in the second quarter to pull the Rebels within three, 10-7.
But Briggs replied with two consecutive three-pointers, one from the top of the key and one from the wing, to build the Marksmen’s lead to 16-7 with 1:39 left in the first half.
After Kerrigan Shourds hit 1 of 2 free throws for South Spencer, Tell City’s Jami Rowe hit a three-pointer to put the Marksmen up 19-8 at halftime.
They led by at least nine the rest of the way despite missing four consecutive free throws in the first four minutes of the third quarter. Two more three-pointers by Briggs that quarter helped the Marksmen widen their lead.
Briggs hit 4 of 6 three-point shots for the game and 7 for 15 from the field overall.
McKenzie Hayes added 10 points, 10 rebounds, six blocked shots, six steals and three assists. She hit 4 of 5 shots from the field but only 2 of 10 free throws.
Lindsey led 1-9 South Spencer with seven points.
Despite going scoreless in the first quarter against Heritage Hills, Tell City led 10-6 at halftime, as both teams had long cold stretches.
But 6-foot-2 center Maddie Fella scored eight of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to help the Patriots pull away.
Hayes finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, four assists and two steals to lead Tell City.
