LEOPOLD—Dakota Brewster gave up only one tainted infield hit as Perry Central beat Crawford County 4-3 in eighth grade baseball Friday.
Brewster struck out seven and walked one in the five-inning game.
Perry Central Coach Rick Graves said he wasn’t sure how much Brewster would be able to pitch because he had strained his neck lifting weights earlier in the day. But he looked strong throughout.
An error and two wild pitches put a Crawford County runner on third base with two outs in the third inning.
The Wolfpack then scored their first run on an infield single by the last batter in their 11-man lineup.
The first baseman probably could have fielded the ball and gotten the batter out but he went to the bag, apparently thinking the second baseman was going to field it.
Crawford County scored two more runs in the fourth inning on three errors.
But Perry Central held on thanks to its four-run first inning. It included three consecutive walks, an RBI single to right field by Ethan Myler, and Kory Hendricks’ two-run single to left-center.
Those were the Commodores only hits in the game, as Crawford County reliever John Henry shut them out the rest of the way.
Myler went 1 for 1 plus a walk and stole three bases.
Perry Central won the second game 7-6 on Luke Hubert’s RBI single to right in the bottom of the seventh inning.
It scored Bailey Huff, who had walked.
Hubert led Perry Central with two hits that game.
He was also the winning pitcher, striking out 17 and giving up two hits and three walks after relieving Myler in the first inning.
Myler walked four and gave up one hit as he allowed four runs in one-third of an inning.
The Commodores im-proved to 7-2 in PLAC play.
They will host Mitchell for a doubleheader today at 5:30 p.m. and finish the season with a doubleheader at Crawford County Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
