LYNNVILLE—Tecumseh had 21 hits, including nine for extra bases, as it beat Cannelton 16-3 in the first round of the Class A baseball sectional Friday.

Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett called the Braves “the best team we’ve faced by far. They killed the ball. Everything they hit was hard.

“And they make the plays. They field ground balls well and run the bases well—they’re pretty fundamentally sound.

“They should get to the semistate at least.”

The Braves scored in every inning. They scored nine runs in the top of the third as they built their lead to 14-0.

Cannelton replied with two runs in the bottom of the third on four walks and a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth on a walk to T.J. James, a fielder’s choice grounder, and Justin Dooley’s double to right-center field.

Cannelton’s only other hit was an infield single by Thomas Lane in the fifth inning.

Tyler Aud pitched the first 21⁄3 innings for Cannelton to take the loss. He walked one batter and struck out two.

Kreig Oxley pitched the first three innings for Tecumseh to get the win. He walked seven and struck out six.

Cannelton finished the season 3-18.

Tecumseh, ranked seventh in the state in the Class A coaches poll, will take a 20-6 record into tonight’s championship game.
