TELL CITY - There's a new player in Perry County's banking scene. Texas-based Woodforest Bank opened a branch in Tell City's Wal-Mart early this month as part of an expansion plan.
The bank already has branches inside Wal-Marts in Boonville, Corydon, Evansville and Louisville, Ky. According to the company's Web site, the bank will open 200 new branches this year in 12 states.
Founded in 1980, Woodforest operates branches in Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Kentucky, South Carolina Alabama, New York, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and Indiana. Most of its branches are located within Wal-Mart stores. The bank also has branches inside other retail stores, including Krogers and Sam's Club.
In response to an e-mail from The News seeking more information, the company said a press release would be forthcoming. No such release had been received as of Wednesday.
