CANNELTON – An 11-year-old Cannelton boy struck by a truck Sunday on Indiana 66 was in critical condition late Sunday at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Ky., Cannelton Police Chief Lee Hall said.
According to Hall, officers and Perry County Emergency Medical Service were notified just before 1 p.m. that a child had been hit in the 300 Block of South Seventh Street, which is also Indiana 66. The 911 caller told dispatchers the child ran into the roadway and was struck by a truck.
The driver of the vehicle, Cory M. James, 21 of rural Cannelton was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck east toward the Lincoln Trail Bridge when the child entered the roadway from in front of a parked vehicle.
Police identified the injured child as Lucian Knotts, 11, of Cannelton.
Police halted traffic in both directions while paramedics treated the child. An AirEvac helicopter landed in the highway and transported the child to Kosair’s.
The highway was closed for more than an hour.
The Cannelton Police Department was assisted by Perry County EMS, Perry County EMA Fire-Rescue-First Responders, Perry County Sheriff’s Department and the Tell City Police Department.
