BOONVILLE—Boonville outscored Tell City 35-16 in the first half en route to a 56-38 girls basketball victory over the Marksmen Thursday.
“We didn’t shoot the ball very well at all,” said Tell City Coach John Lyons. “And our defense wasn’t nearly as good as I thought it would be.”
The Marksmen played mostly man-to-man defense, with a little matchup zone at times.
Other factors that hurt the Marksmen were “we had a lot of turnovers and they had a lot of offensive rebounds,” said Lyons. “They probably outrebounded us 2 to 1.”
Center McKenzie Hayes led Tell City with nine points. Freshman reserve Jami Rowe added seven points despite playing only the fourth quarter.
Rebounding statistics were not available.
Samantha Church, a 5-foot-8 junior, led Boonville with 19 points.
Chelsea Goldman and Erin Green each added 11 points, with Goldman hitting three three-point shots in the first half.
Tell City fell to 0-12 while Boonville improved to 5-9.
The Marksmen will host Perry Central tonight at 7:30.
Tell City’s junior varsity beat Boonville 29-26 for its first win of the season.
Rowe led the Marksmen with nine points and Hannah Schaefer added six.
