MITCHELL—Mitchell’s two unearned runs in the first inning stood up as the Blue-jackets beat Perry Central 2-1 in a PLAC baseball pitching duel Tuesday.
Tanner Cassidy pitched a complete game for Perry Central, giving up only five singles, walking only one, and striking out five.
But the Commodores committed two of their three errors in the first inning, allowing Mitchell to score its runs.
Mitchell played errorless ball and Perry Central had only four hits despite striking out only four times.
“We’re doing better at making contact but we’re not making solid contact,” said Perry Central Coach Phil Zellers. “We hit a lot of weak ground balls.”
Anthony Mosby went 2 for 3 and Cassidy hit a double for the Commodores.
They scored their run in the fifth inning. Mosby singled and was sacrificed to second base by Bryce Ridener.
Pinch-runner Payton Thompson then stole third base and scored on Alton Cummings’ ground out to the second baseman.
The Commodores had runners on first and second with one out in the sixth, when Cassidy doubled and Zach Wright was hit by a pitch, but they could not score.
Perry Central, 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the PLAC, will host West Washington for a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
