TELL CITY – Tell City-Troy Township School Superintendent Lynn Blinzinger announced at Tuesday’s meeting that he will retire at the end of the current school year. He said he would work until June and said he wanted to give the board “plenty of time” to begin the search process for a replacement.
Blinzinger made the announcement in a spirited exchange between Board President Mack Cail and member Sherri Flynn over the need to conduct an evaluation of the superintendent. She has repeatedly said the board has failed to follow state law and its own guidelines. The board agreed to move forward with setting goals for the current school year.
Blinzinger, who also said the evaluation is required, said his decision to retire was not based over calls for an evaluation. Hired in early 2011, he said he intended to work three to five years and wants to spend time with family and in other pursuits.
A story about the evaluation issue and other news from Tuesday’s meeting will be in Thursday’s issue.
