PERRY COUNTY – A bill introduced into the Indiana General Assembly Thursday would, if enacted, force any school with a student population of less than 500 to consolidate with another in the same county, threatening an independence Cannelton City Schools has fought to maintain.
Bolstered by recommendations from a committee on local-government reform he formed in 2007, Gov. Mitch Daniels has been urging the consolidation of schools as a method of saving public funds.
