TELL CITY – The Rev. Marlin Betts was born into a parsonage family in Manistique, Mich. He spent most of his childhood in Michigan with his two brothers and one sister.

After high school graduation he enrolled in college to become a math teacher. After receiving a call to the ministry during his freshman year, he attended a Bible college in Cincinnati, Ohio to prepare for the work that God had set before him. Betts participated in ministry during college by traveling to various churches, singing bass in the college quartet. He also met and married his sweetheart, Debbie, while attending Bible college.
After graduating with two bachelor’s degrees, the next goal was seminary. While attending Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss., Marlin became the father of three daughters and gained three years of pastoral experience at the Greenville Church of the Nazarene.
During this time he also became an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene. After graduation, the Betts’ family moved to Louisiana where Pastor Betts spent the next 18 years ministering in various ways.
These ministries included pasturing three churches in DeRidder, West Monroe and Winnsboro, being a chaplain for hospice care, and teaching Bible at a Christian high school.
Marlin and Debbie Betts have moved across many miles to become the parsonage family of the Tell City Church of the Nazarene. Their three daughters are all adults and live in other states.
They are very excited about becoming an active part of the community here in Tell City. Pastor Betts is thankful for the warm welcome he has received from his church family and looks forward to ministering for the Lord in Indiana.
