Top Cannelton students plan to study education, criminal justice
CANNELTON - Ashley Nicole Seifert, daughter of David and Susan Seifert, 4203 E. Indiana 66, will speak on the subject, "Beating the Odds," when she delivers her valedictorian address during Cannelton High School's Class of 2008 commencement ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday in the city's community center.
She has participated in National Honor Society, student council, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Personal Achievement through Caring and Kindness at School, and Spanish and art clubs.
She earned Loren and Bernice Lanman, Robert E. Boyles and Academic Honors Diploma scholarships and the Daughters of the American Revolution Award.
Seifert plans to attend Vincennes University Jasper Campus to complete studies toward becoming a preschool or kindergarten teacher.
Also addressing graduates, their guests and faculty and staff members will be salutatorian Erin Nicole Schneider, daughter of Melissa Brown, 7794 Deer Creek Road, Cannelton, and Tim Schneider, 309 Bittner St., Owensville.
The salutatorian also participated in National Honor Society, student council, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, PACKS and Spanish and art clubs.
In addition, she was a youth-group instructor and participated in Learn and Serve, the yearbook committee, science and young authors' fairs, Hoosier Girls State and a mission trip to Costa Rica.
Schneider, who earned placement on the high honor roll, is recovering from a lengthy hospital stay and intends to talk about overcoming obstacles.
She plans to attend Indiana University Southeast to major in criminal justice.
