TELL CITY - One of the successful new events from last year's Tell City sesquicentennial will return to this year's Schweizer Fest.
The second annual barbecue cook-off will be held Aug. 8 and is open to all area backyard barbecuers, event chairman Phil Wittmer said.
Last year's event drew local chefs who labored over grills on the east side of City Hall Park. This year's event will move to Sunset Park and family and friends, along with others, will be invited to cheer on the teams. This year's contest includes chicken, ribs and beef brisket and teams can compete in any combination of the three categories.
"We're hoping for another great response," Wittmer said. There is a $20 entry for each category. Meat, however, will be provided at no cost. First-place prizes of $150 will be awarded in each category. Second-place winners will receive $100 with third place paying $50.
Judges will consider taste, tenderness, as well as texture and appearance in determining winners.
"The number of allotted booths for the contestants is limited to 25, so start planning now and put this date on your calendar and return an application as soon as possible," Wittmer said.
Contest entry forms and rules can be picked up at The Perry County News, Perry County Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Old National Bank. The deadline for entering is July 29. For more information, call 547-3173 or e-mail email@example.com.
