Ball family benefit to be held Saturday

BIRDSEYE – A benefit has been scheduled for the Derick Ball family Saturday at the Birdseye Conservation Club.
Roger and Sherry Ball lost their son, Derick “Mouse” Ball, Nov. 18, 2010, when Derick took his own life. This benefit has three objectives, to lighten the financial burden for the Ball family, to honor Derick and other victims of suicide and to raise awareness about suicide.
Several events will occur through out the day, starting at 10 a.m. Live wood carving, special guest speakers, a candlelight service, a silent auction, hourshoe tournament, cornhole tournament and bands will be featured.
A dance from 6 to 11:30 p.m. will be $3 per person or $5 per couple. Face painting and kids games with prizes will also be available with $3 allowing kids to play all day.
A balloon-releasing ceremony in memory of Derick as well as other victims of suicide will be held and an opportunity to contribute to photo-memory walls to be presented to the Ball family and Dubois County Suicide Prevention.
For more information on the walls, contact the artist, Sarah Kraft at (812) 630-2014.
Information on suicide will be free of charge and purple and teal ribbons may be purchased for $1 to promote awareness.
Door prizes and a half-pot drawing will be held. Refreshments will include chicken and pork-chop dinners, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and beverages.
