Back-to-school cookouts planned

Local groups encouraged to take part

PERRY COUNTY – School will start at all three county school corporations in a few weeks and the annual back-to-school cookouts to kick off the new school year have been planned. 

There will be family events in Tell City, Leopold and Cannelton featuring getting-ready-for-school booths and activities hosted by school and community organizations and businesses as well as school-supply giveaways, entertainment and free hot dogs courtesy of German American Bank.

Cannelton’s cookout will be held Aug. 5 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Covered Wagon on Sixth Street. 

William Tell Elementary School will host its event Aug. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. 

Perry Central will have its cookout Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafetorium followed by a dance for fifth- through eighth-graders sponsored by the Perry Central Captains Club.

Local organizations that work with school-age children are invited to participate and businesses are encouraged to sponsor a fun activity booth or give a monetary donation or school supplies.
