Interested actors invited to April 12-13, 19-20 tryouts

TELL CITY - Auditions for the 2008 Schweizer Fest stage production of 1776 are coming up soon and the show's director wants to extend an invitation to everyone who is interested.

"It's important that we get the word out and to let everyone in the three counties know they are welcome to audition," said Bob Godthaab. The musical's 25 male roles and two female roles are open to residents of Perry, Spencer and Hancock counties who are 18 years and older. Past Schweizer Fest musicals have tapped talent in all three counties.

This year's production of the Broadway musical 1776 retraces the history of our nation's Founding Fathers as they debated the Declaration of Independence. Four auditions are scheduled: 1 to 5 p.m. April 12-13 and 19-20, all at Evangelical United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall in Tell City. Interested performers need to attend only one audition. Those attending are invited to bring a song to perform but that's not required.

Male characters include Thomas Jefferson and John Adams while two women will be cast to portray Martha Jefferson and Abigail Adams. The preferred singing range for the two female characters is from middle C to the second F above middle C, Godthaab said.
