Accident kills vehicle passenger

PERRY COUNTY – One person was killed in an accident just after 6 a.m. Wednesday on Indiana 37.

Adomey Perez Velaquez, 21, of Owensboro was killed when the driver of a northbound Chevrolet Blazer, Galindo Velaquez, 23, also of Owensboro, crossed the center line and collided with a southbound tractor-trailer  at 6:04 a.m.

The driver fled the scene on foot but was apprehended after a police dog was summoned to the scene.

Occupants of the Blazer were on their way to their work site in the northern part of the county, according to Sheriff’s Deputy Lee Chestnut.

The victim was riding in the rear seat on the driver’s side of the Blazer.

The semi was driven by Marcus W. Lutz, 39, of Louisville, Ky., who wasn’t injured. The fleeing driver was reported captured at approximately 7:25 a.m. Charges were pending an investigation as of press time
