51st Schweizer Fest under way

Opening ceremonies Wednesday kicked off Tell City's 51st Schweizer Fest. Activities continue through Saturday in City Hall Park. Here's a rundown of some activities.

Today

• Today through Saturday - Schweizer Fest Market in City Hall Park. For more information, contact the Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 547-7933.

• 5:30 p.m. Schweizer Fest Testimonial Dinner and Program honoring Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance at Knights of Columbus Home. Sponsored by the Perry County Chamber of Commerce.

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. - Talent Show, sponsored by Cromwell Radio Group; entry forms at Cromwell office, second floor of First State Bank. Call 547-2345 for more information. Musik Halle, City Hall Park

• 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. - Pete Beard, always-popular local singer-guitarist performing in Musik Halle, City Hall Park.

• 9 to 11 p.m. - Terry Lee and the Rockaboogie Band - the piano-pumpin' rock 'n' roll show band returns after last year's sesquicentennial appearance, Brau Garten, City Hall Park.

Friday

• 1 to 8 p.m. Recycled Art Show sponsored by the Tell City Regional Arts Association in gallery on the second floor of City Hall.  

• 6 to 6:30 p.m. - Back-to-School Fashion Show - local students model fall fashions from Maurices, Peebles, Burris-LeClere Eye Center and Hauenstein's, Musik Halle, City Hall Park.

• 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. - Shoot for the Stars - nine semi-finalists in the local singing competition will perform.

• 7 to 8:30 p.m. - Country line dancing on Main Street in front of First State Bank, presented by Mary Lynn and Larry's Country Line Dancers.

• 8 to 11:00 p.m. - Teen Garden - Jr. High Night, Ninth Street, City Hall Park. DJ Sound and Light Show, free admission.

• 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. - The Duke Boys - one of the Midwest's premier 50s and 60s rock 'n' roll show bands - returns to Schweizer Fest after opening last year's sesquicentennial celebration.   

Saturday

• 8 a.m. - 32nd annual 6-mile and 2-mile Schweizer Fest Road Run. For information or registration, call Tony or Chris Hollinden at 547-3441. Sponsored by Perry County Memorial Hospital.

• 9 a.m. - 36th annual Schweizer Fest Golf Open. To enter, contact Randy Fischer at 547-5691 or (812) 431-7526. Hosted by Hoosier Heights Country Club.

• 10 a.m. - EverBody's Fun & Fitness Schweizer Fest Bench Press Competition, weigh-in begins at 9 a.m., followed by competition.

• 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. - No Illusions Ministries - Leo the Great Christian Magic Show, Musik Halle, City Hall Park

• Noon to 1 p.m. - 22nd annual Diaper Derby.

• Noon to 6 p.m. - Second annual Schweizer Fest Wine Garden. Tickets are $10 each, which includes a collectible glass.

• 1 to 8 p.m. Recycled Art Show sponsored by the Tell City Regional Arts Association in gallery on the second floor of City Hall.

• 1:45 to 3 p.m. - 28th annual Pet Show in City Hall Park.

• 4:15 to 5 p.m. - Owensboro recording quartet Firm Foundation performing.

• 5:15 to 6 p.m. - Cheri Taylor, recording artist from Spencer County, performing.

• 6:15 to 7 p.m. - Leo Gronquist and Friends, performing Christian, gospel and bluegrass gospel music.

• 6 to 7 p.m. - Country line dancing on Main street, in front of First State Bank, presented by Jesse and Cheryl Clem of the Covered Wagon

• 8 to 11 p.m. - Teen Garden - High School Night. DJ Sound and Light Show, free admission.

• 8 p.m. to midnight - Blyndsyde makes Schweizer Fest debut on the Brau Garten stage.
