13-year-olds defeat Newburgh but fall in next two games

HAUBSTADT—Tell City had 12 hits as it beat the Newburgh Nightmares 11-4 in the first round of the age-13 Babe Ruth baseball district tourney last Thursday.

Brennan Malone went 3 for 4. Cody Osborne hit a double and a single and Dakota Braunecker also had two hits.

Malone, Osborne and Braunecker each drove in two runs.

Drew Mowery pitched a complete game for the win. He gave up six hits and three walks and struck out eight.

Tell City pitchers had control problems as the team lost its next two games to finish fourth in the five-team, double-elimination tourney.

Tell City lost to Jasper 11-4 Friday as Jasper drew 15 walks.

Mowery and Austin Paulin each hit a double to lead Tell City’s three-hit attack.

Tell City gave up 12 walks in a 13-1 loss to South Gibson Saturday. “We just couldn’t throw strikes,” said Manager Kris Mowery.

Drew Mowery had two hits that game and Rhett Baumeister added a double.

Kris Mowery said he plans to have the team play another tourney at Bloomington.
