  • PUBLIC NOTICE THE Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is planning to undertake a bridge rehabilitation project, funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration. The project will rehabilitate Bridge No. 066-53-05798A by rehabilitating the bridges H-piles to restore load carrying capability, replacing its bridge deck and wearing surface with a new standard deck, and repairing its spalled and cracked areas in the superstructure and caps. The project is located in an unincorporated area in Tobin Township, Perry County, Indiana. INDOT is the project sponsor. Bridge No. 066-53-05798A (NBI #023610), also known as the SR 66 over Poison Creek bridge, is a five span continuous pre-stressed concrete I-beam bridge approximately 250 feet long. The bridge was built in 1967 and rehabilitated in 1989. It has two twelve-foot travel lanes bordered by four feet of usable deck shoulder. The project area consists of the bridge, a boat ramp, and Poison Creek. The terrain throughout the project area is rolling, and the vegetative coverage includes lawn and many trees. The trees constitute a part of the Hoosier National Forest, inside which the project is located. The root need for this project is to address the deficiencies that affect the bridge to the extent that it is structurally deficient. These deficiencies include: significant concrete encasement section loss, steel section loss at the exposed portions of each steel H-pile exposed below water, deterioration of the existing bridge deck, and deterioration of the existing wearing surface. Some right of way take may occur as a part of this project but is currently undetermined. No relocations of businesses or residents will occur as a part of this project. The proposed action does not impact items listed on or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The Federal Highway Administration has issued a No Historic Properties Affected Finding for the project, due to the fact that there are no historic properties eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places within the area of potential effect of the project. In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act, the views of the public are being sought regarding the effect of the proposed project on the historic elements as per 36 CFR 800.2(d), 800.3(e) and 800.6(a)(4). Pursuant to 36 CFR 800.6(a)(4), the documentation specified in 36 CFR 800.11(d) is available for inspection at the address listed below. This documentation serves as the basis for the Federal Highway Administrations No Historic Properties Affected finding. The views of the public on this finding are being sought.
